Wholesale supplier, exporter and manufacturer of natural cashmere/ pashmina shawls from Nepal
Pashmina also known as cashmere in the international market is a diamond fiber obtained from the hair of the Himalayan mountain goat “chyangra” or “Capra Hircus”. These goats are found only in the High Himalayas where they naturally produce an insulating, fine and soft hair on their body to protect themselves from the harsh and cold weather. Pashmina shawls are made from these fine soft and thin hair fibers of the goats. The best and pure pashmina shawls are made from the undercoat finer hairs. The goats of the Himalayas are blessed with admirable softest, lightest and warmest wool.
Pashmina, the finest wool of all has been famous for 100 of years within the royals and other elites as the most elegant and most luxurious wool. A Pashmina shawl is desirable mostly amongst women. The style is something that creates a personal statement and makes you stand out from the crowd. Even if you are wearing the common trendy clothes you can be unique and glamorous by adding personal style, which can be achieved by complimenting your outfit with a variety of accessories. And one of the most preferred and chic ways to do that is just by wearing a pashmina shawl.
How is pashmina shawl made?
Nepal pashmina shawl is extracted from the fine undercoat fiber of the Himalayan goats. These goats produce a soft thin inner coat, insulating ultra-fine hairs. It’s this soft undercoat hair that’s used to make pure pashmina shawl. In average, to make a single pashmina shawl depending on the length and yarn thickness two to three Himalayan goats’ hair is required. The hair is shredded or cut from the goat during spring. The goats are not harmed in the process of shredding the hair from their body. Average goat yields 300 to 400 grams of raw cashmere wool every year. After the wool is shredded it is spun into charkha, a traditional way of making fibers into yarns done manually. Drafting is done in the loom also known as a twist; yarns are then fitted into a shuttle for weaving. There are different types of hand loom. A special and intricate type of Jacquard system is used to create interesting and beautiful patterns. After the pashmina shawl is made it is cut out of the loom than hand washed with soap and water. After the shawl is dry it goes through brushing to extract extra fuzziness and to make the surface smooth. Then it is sent for dying. Sample dying in a small fabric is done prior to insuring the color shade. After the sample testing, the dye solution is made in a big pot than the shawl is soaked. Dying colors are generally imported from India and Europe. After dying it again goes through inspection for any defect. Minor errors are checked and corrected. Then fringes are made by hands. The shawl is soaked in softener for smoother and soft finish. Then it is ironed properly then finale inspection is done to rectify any defects. Finally, it is labeled and packed. The luxurious pashmina shawl is finally made. From extracting fibre once in a year spinning it into yarns and exporting it from rural place of Nepal to urban places to further process the fibre into making a luxury, all done by skilled craftsmen by hand itself is so much challenging and labour effective which makes the pashmina shawls more expensive and luxurious.
